Pack up your troubles....
Shimelle's prompt for today is - What's in your suitcase? What are your travel essentials....
I don't do an awful lot of travelling and tend to be a 'just in case' type of person, so overdo the packing whenever I am going somewhere. Strangely enough this was one of the things mentioned about my personality type too....that we are always ready for every eventuality, but to the extent that we pack way too much stuff.
I have tried the 'capsule wardrobe' idea but it didn't really work. I can't go anywhere without at least 3 pairs of shoes - comfy everyday, comfy dressy and dressy dressy - does that make sense to anyone? Two years ago i decided I would only buy clothes in black, white, navy, pink or red and would conveniently be able to 'mix and match'! ya right! - if you are Kate Moss I think. This year I have gone against that idea and bought 'outfits' so that I have dress/skirt, top, cardigan and shoes. This makes it so much easier to decide what to wear when I get up in the morning and lets face it, that ten minutes extra in bed is worth more to me.
Back to the holiday packing....sun cream, sun hat, after sun (I am a fair haired, sun burn prone person, in case you hadn't guessed), prescription and non prescription sun glasses, swimming and non swimming swim suits (ie one for when I actually want to swim - speedo type thingy, and one for wearing sitting pretty on the beach), lots of shorts, stringy tops, flip flops - dress up version and beach version. I always pack a mini first aid kit with paracetamol, band aids, steri wipes and various dresssings. Insect repellant and some form of antiseptic cream, tickets, passport, notebook/journal to write in, travel book of area I am going to (am a Rough Guide snob), other book for general reading. I also love plastic jewellery - and love to have something to match the various 'outfits' I have for holidays - bangles, necklaces, etc. Currency, although the euro has sorted that, credit card, and emergency numbers.
Phew....and I have no plans to go anywhere this year...unless my darling hubby decides to whisk me away for my eminant (sp?) big (ish) birthday. I'm 30 in September....he's 30 in August...any suggestions of a pressie...while you are all out there?
Ooooh, I need a pic - I bought a super funky hold all a couple of weeks ago - I needed it because I haven't anything for weekends away, etc. I'll post a pic later.

If I could Turn Back Time....
As Cher would say....
So, for example, I'd go back to see myself as a child and tell myself that it's a wonderful childhood and that I am so lucky...of course it's only now I realise it fully. I think overall I have enjoyed life and haven't stressed too much about e.g. exams, lovelife, etc, so maybe I'd reassure myself that it will all work itself out.
I had a thing going on this blog for a while that I used song titles as the title of my entries. I might try it again. Since Shimelle gave her prompt yesterday, Cher's song has been in my head....also I saw that particular music video at the weekend....wow, she had some guts to wear an 'outfit' like that!
Anyway, today's prompt from Shimelle's class is:
If you could travel in time for just one day, where would you go and what would you do?
Hmmmmn, this is a real tough one. Not that I love every minute of every day (I just spent the last 3 hours with my accountant!) but I believe in living in the moment and what's done is done. Also I believe that the future holds what the future holds and maybe we shouldn't try to work out what's going to happen. So that rules out going back in time (in my lifetime) or going to the future (in my lifetime)....
The only thing I might do is go back and tell myself to appreciate things more....

One other thing I wouldn't mind doing is going back to see my husband as a child. I think he had a great childhood too, by the memories he mentions, but it would be nice to see what he was like back then! Hopefully our kids will have similarly good memories of their childhood....better documented though (by their obsessive scrapping mother!)

My Freedom
I've signed up to Shimelle's new class - My Freedom. She's giving blog prompts as part of it, so it hopefully will mean that I'm a better blogger after the next 5 weeks too!
And now, a photo....I don't really have one yet that links in to Shimelle's prompt, but yesterday was my Grandad's 80th Birthday and so that's kind of about Time passing - 80 years! So all the family gatherered for a little party. Here's almost all the grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Oldest age 80 years, youngest aged 8 months....... There's the passing of time, if ever you saw it.
Our first prompt is about Time...
I mentioned before that if Shimelle (or any other crafty shop owners) were selling 'Time' in their shops that I'd buy bags of the stuff....it's the one thing I seem to be lacking in terms of crafting. I have inspiration and ideas coming out my ears, stash to beat the band, but....no time? Or is that just my usual - procrastination? I think about the time it takes to take out my stash, the time to come up with an idea (didn't I just say I had loads though!), make something (I take too long to make a layout...too picky, too fussy), the time to tidy it up.....and that's what puts me off. It's awful, because I love it; I love spending time crafting. It relaxes and energises me at the same time, if that's possible!
I've been doing quite a bit of personal development? lately - the Enneagram, etc. Mainly to do with work - how to work more effectively, etc, etc, but it turns out my personality type (9) is one who tends to put things off.....You don't say! and makes excuses to themselves! So one of the things they recommend when you are at work is lists (to be honest I make loads of lists) but especially to PRIORITIZE things on the list. Aha! So I am prioritizing my blog, my creativity and Shimelle's class for the next 5 weeks. Prioritizing me, in fact.
